This is a quick and easy way to reduce bulk
in the waistband or armband
with cotton knit.
Serge your seam as normal.
Next, find the middle of your band and clip inward at that point.
Press so each seam goes in an opposite direction as shown in the photograph above.
Fold the waistband in half wrong side to wrong side and sew on like you always do.
You'll like the feel of the reduced bulk.
Smiles,
Deborah
I just read your tip for jersey knit waistbands to reduce bulk. I don't have a serger but I will be using your trick to make a band for my upper arm. I have what is called a pic line just above my elbow with all this ugly tubing, caps and ugly tape. I don't want to wear long sleeves that I have to pull over all this clear tubing filled with a backflow of blood. But some people get squeamish at the sight of blood. I can make an arm band in minutes to cover what I need to hide and not risk damaging the IV port.
ReplyDeleteDear Pamela,
DeleteI'm glad that my tip was useful for you. If you don"t have a serger, sew the seam with a stretch stitch on your regular machine. Look for a stitch that looks like a lightning bolt.
