Running Stitch Used to Decorate a Child's Vest

Today, I've been working on my latest project for the "Project Run and Play August Challenge".  This sewing challenge involves hand embroidery. I just made this cute little vest and I am using the running stitch to create rows of interlocking hearts.
It's a simple little stitch and is usually one of the first stitches learned by a beginner.   I may add another whipped stitch layer...I haven't quite decided.

In many ways, I just like the simplicity of the stitch...

Ruffled Jean Skirt for Pre-Teen

  I created this skirt is for a pre-teen that wears a lot of the color black and likes her skirts to ride lower on her hips.  The ruffle material is a polyester and rayon blend that feels so soft.

This skirt is for the Skirting the Issue project in which bloggers across America are sewing and donating skirts to girls that are part of the foster care program.

As I've been sewing skirts for young girls in the foster care program, my hope is that they will realized that someone is thinking of them and hoping that they will become part of a protective family that will care about them.

One Ruffle Repurposed Jean Skirt

Here's another one of my ruffle jean skirts, with only one ruffle,
  that I created to donate to

 girls in the foster care program.    

It is for a little girl that wears a size Toddler 2. 

My inspiration was this darling Eric Carle print fabric inspired by the book, "Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What Do You See"

I cut a horizontal strip to create a boarder print ruffle for the jeans skirt. In fact, I cut 2 matching strips to make the full gathered strip added to the jean yoke.

Linen to Simple Yet Dressy Skirt

 A simple length of linen, that has been lying in your fabric stash, can become a simple yet dressy skirt. This skirt has a waistband in the front so it lays flat, and is gathered with elastic in the back.

In fact that length of linen can become 6 dressy skirts to donate to girls living in foster homes. (hint, hint)

Generosity + Susan  =   More skirts for Girls in the Foster Care Program

When Susan heard that I was sewing for young girls in the foster care program, she started sewing!

Here are 3  of the skirts she made:

3 circle skirts with matching bags

 

This one features a big patch pocket.Can't you just see a young girl going to the first day of school, with some of her supplies in the matching bag, wearing this skirt with either a solid white or coral t- shirt. I think she'll wear a big smile too.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Simple Elastic Waist Skirt + Disney Fabric = Winner

Not all skirts have to be complicated.

Just start with a cute "Princess" or "Frozen" fabric and sew it up in an uncomplicated elastic waist design. You will have a winner.

This skirt has a matching doll carrier bag.
